Weightlifter Iryna Klymets stretched from the lower right to the upper left
Weightlifter Iryna Klymets stretched from the lower right to the upper left 71х55 cm, acrylic on biflex
About the artwork

“The cover for Vogue UA shows a figure of a weightlifter from the Olympic team – a photo from her own archive was used. The author’s technique of painting on synthetic biflex fabric is applied. The elasticity of the fabric allows you to deform the image when stretched on a stretcher. Therefore, the tension itself becomes the author’s gesture, and the deformation of the picture refers to digital editing and retouching. This work is a reflection on the perception of the human body in the future when in the conditions of advanced medicine and science people will reconsider the standards of appearances and will not hide medical interventions, but on the contrary, will emphasize them. The image of a weightlifter was used not by chance because this sport has archaic roots and comes from ancient martial arts. This practice also has the potential for transformation, and we can think about the future from the perspective of the past”.
