26.07 at 6:30: Artist Talk with the artist Aljoscha and Natalia Shpytkovska
26.07.2024 -
On 26 July 2024, as part of the Gardens of Dreams exhibition project, Artist Talk with Aljoscha was held at the M17 CAC. The meeting was hosted by Natalia Shpytkovska, project Curator and Director of the M17 CAC.
Aljoscha is a contemporary visual artist and sculptor of Ukrainian origin. He explores visual possibilities of synthetic biology and the new aesthetics of biofuturism and bioethical abolitionism. His organically shaped sculptures made of acrylic glass and metal are attempts at mapping out the organic life of the future – something that the author refers to as bioism, the term he has created himself.
Aljoscha’s highly complex and delicate artworks defy classical canon. They seem to evoke a once popular Bergson’s concept of élan vital, based on self-organisation and spontaneous morphogenesis of living organisms.
Aljoscha believes that artists in the future should consider their works as living organisms they interact with. And not only them but their audience as well. In this communication, people will have to develop a different vision, create innovative forms, and set new standards and ethics to make our world a better place where everyone feels appropriate.
Although he also produces graphic works, the artist is primarily known for his installations in public spaces, such as museums, art galleries, churches, and schools. One can find Aljoscha’s sculptures and installations all over the world. One of the most famous ones is the installation “The Gates of the Sun and the Land of Dreams” for Schloss Benrath. Aljoscha often does not name his works purposely, not to limit the viewer’s imagination.
His works have been showcased at prestigious venues such as TEFAF New York 2024 and are part of renowned collections like the Vatican Collection in Rome, the Getty Center in Los Angeles, Museo Bilotti in Rende, Italy, and more. His art has been featured in top galleries worldwide, including Tempesta Gallery in Milan, Priska Pasquer in Paris and Cologne, Beck & Eggeling Gallery in Düsseldorf, and Kinsky in Vienna, among others.
