M17 CAC in 2024: Our Projects and Achievements

20.12.2024

Despite the challenges and trials of this year, we successfully hosted several large-scale exhibitions at M17 Contemporary Art Center.

“Assembly Scheme”

late 2023 – March 3, 2024

Artists: 60

Visitors: 5,000

At the beginning of the year, on January 25, we launched an updated version of the “Assembly Scheme” exhibition, focusing on the phenomenon of the Kyiv Institute of Automation. This project brought together 60 artists who presented a self-organized artist community — a dynamic organism that evolves, inspires, and generates new ideas and reflections. Alongside the exhibition, the project featured special art events and rotating displays.

“Foretypes”

April 11, 2024 – July 7, 2024

Artist: Anatoly Kryvolap

Visitors: 3,000

In April, we unveiled a solo exhibition by Anatoly Kryvolap, “Foretypes.” This unique display marked the first-ever combination of Kryvolap’s abstract works from the 1990s–2000s with his iconography created over the past year. To complement the exhibition, M17’s gallery spaces were transformed into “Kryvolap colours,” with the artist personally overseeing the selection of vibrant hues for the space.

“Gardens of Dreams”

July 25, 2024 – October 20, 2024

Artists: 7 (4 international, 3 Ukrainian)

Visitors: Over 15,000

In July, we launched the futuristic exhibition project “Gardens of Dreams,” featuring works by international and Ukrainian artists. The exhibition explored imagined worlds, perspectives on coexistence with artificial intelligence, synthetic biology, and the interplay between virtuality and reality. It delved into the metaphor of the temple of the future being built today, shaped by both humans and technology.  “Gardens of Dreams” became the most successful and widely attended exhibition in M17’s 15-year history, drawing over 15,000 visitors in just three months.

“Resilience Formula”

Since October 31, 2024, and ongoing

Artists: 45

Visitors: Over 1,000 (so far)

At the end of October, we opened the joint exhibition project “Resilience Formula” in collaboration with the Modern Art Research Institute and the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine. This exhibition explores artistic visions of how Ukrainians find strength and resilience in their daily lives amidst ongoing challenges. The project features works by 45 artists and continues to welcome visitors at M17.

Throughout the year, M17 hosted dozens of cultural events, including curatorial tours, lectures, artist talks, panel discussions, workshops, performances, and art book presentations.

In total, over 100 artists were featured in our exhibitions, and as of now, we have welcomed 24,826 visitors across our events and exhibition openings.

And the year isn’t over yet. On December 27, we plan to reopen “Resilience Formula” after a short break and bring some holiday cheer with a special event — a Christmas concert by Nazgul Shukaeva band.

We are proud of this fruitful year of art and are deeply grateful to everyone involved in creating and supporting our projects. Of course, none of this would have been possible without the heroic efforts of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, who grant us the ability to live and continue creating cultural experiences for art lovers.

Thank you for being with us in 2024. We are already preparing ambitious plans for 2025.

Stay tuned for updates, and see you at M17!
