- 1 (From the “Icons” series)
Karas Artem
“This text was created as a forced compromise for the perception of the missing concept in a visual artistic image. There are “icons” in a pile of garbage. Among the broken furniture, urine mattresses, and a variety of other wastes of human existence. It’s ridiculous. The idols worshipped by millions, with dubious ideals, exalted and cultivated for centuries, are now equal to trash. They have found their natural place in the dirt and decay, waiting for their hearse.
Not representing significance, they are only the personification of human imperfection, the crutches of civilization. Another value system clinging to the echoes of its former power, discarded due to its lack of viability and forced to face the waste industry. By uncontrollably submitting to the irresistible need to defame, mock and do something to them, he has worsened their already tragic situation. This series is nothing more than the fulfillment of my need to valuate human values.
My work does not have sublime literary motives, deep conceptual issues, clear formulation, understanding, or explanation of “why.” It does not have to convey, prove, show, change, or influence anything to anyone.”
