“A tree that holds fast to the ground” series 140x100 cm, 70x100 cm, oil paint on paper
About the artwork

“The main theme for this series of drawings was a sense of connection. The connection of the lost and the restored, the connection with the past, with my country and my hometown. The search for one’s roots and the feeling of connection with one’s native land. In a sense, the tree is a demonstration of time, a living witness to its flow. In its tangled roots, we can feel a connection to previous generations who also went through wars and misfortunes, losing hope for a better future and gaining it again.

Thinking about the history of my own family, recalling the stories I heard from my grandmothers and other elderly relatives, I cannot help but compare them to current events. This imaginary journey into the past, which is actually quite complicated, helps me to better understand myself and certain circumstances of my childhood and adulthood and, in fact, to find my identity.”
