About the artwork

The project “Calming, anti-anxiety” is a series of paintings that I create during the war in Ukraine. The subjects of these works are primarily medications I find at the homes of my friends, soldiers, civilians, and close ones. When I visit them, they kindly give me access to their medicine cabinets and share their diagnoses. The “Calming” project is not necessarily about sedative drugs; for example, a jar of iodine, which everyone should have in case of a nuclear strike, also provides some comfort simply by being in the cabinet.

These five paintings are just part of the series.

During these challenging times, when I work on the pieces for this project, I find my own calm, as painting is something that inspires me and others. On the other hand, I shed light on the issues of mental health. In Ukraine, there are almost no institutions for treating military PTSD and other disorders, and outdated treatment methods are still used in state psychiatric hospitals. This is sad because with each passing day, more and more people are affected.
