- Without a System. Configuration 2
Uliana Pashkova
The modules can form temporary constructions: walls, protective structures, or unstable, bizarre shapes. No configuration is final — the structure presupposes assembling, rearranging, and destruction. Creation and disintegration.
Consciousness cannot be fixed in a stable form, as it changes its state every day, every hour. In this project, I depict a moment torn from a person’s consciousness — as an attempt at recollection rather than fixation, as an effort to hold a state. It is a temporary pause within continuous movement, where construction and destruction occur simultaneously.
Signs of war gradually become part of everyday life; wounds on the body and in the mind are quickly forced to heal, although they can never fully disappear. The project works with memory as a fragile material from which a person attempts to build inner and outer shells of protection.
This work is precisely about memory — personal memory that flows into the collective. It is formed from bricks, fragments, recollections, fears, and sensations. Some things slowly disappear, some crumble, collapse, and become covered with rust.
Fragments of images — bodily and personal — the insides of destroyed houses, the feeling of threat, memories of life, and found objects: all these are traces of both internal and external destruction.
Uliana Pashkova is an artist working with graphics, objects, and experimental printmaking techniques. At the center of her practice is the human body — its sensuality, mortality, and vulnerability. She is interested in exploring the fragility of physical existence and the instability of human consciousness, as well as how memory and symbols shape our experience. In her work, she often turns to printmaking and archaic techniques, combining them with experimental graphics and material research.
She is currently studying in the Free Graphics program at the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in Kyiv.
