About the artwork

Sometimes, waking up, consciousness seems to lag behind the process, and the dream has not yet dissipated. It is superimposed on reality, which is scientifically called hypnagogia and is considered a kind of limbo for our consciousness. It seems like a space between two worlds, but it is simply a malfunction in the work of our brain, namely in the occipital lobe, which is responsible for hallucinations. The duration of the state can vary from a few seconds to several minutes.
There was a period in my life when I often felt this. At first it looked scary, like real hallucinations, but I was always fascinated by everything mystical and everything related to dream states. Sleep is a small death, the moment when reality disappears and we fall into the chaos of the subconscious. I decided to explore this state, immersing myself in my own experience and observing how it manifests itself in visual images.
Thus was born my project “Between Reality and Dream”. Using film and double exposure, I tried to recreate the surreal, unstable shapes that appear during hypnagogia. It’s like trying to capture the imprints of dreams that slip away the moment you try to look at them.
