About the artwork

“This triptych was created on the basis of photo material collected in the Istanbul art symposium. During my visit the sculptural workshop of a naïve art master, which reflects the Turkic heroic epic along with popular American cartoon characters to order.

These chaotically arranged sculptural works in his small workshop, completely different in theme and style, together acquire a new, unexpected meaning of burlesque. This mood was imprinted in my head for a long time and inspired me to create this triptych.”

The core of Mykola Dzhychka’s painting is the memory, the things that are selected, sorted and recorded as traces and signs, using the individual experience of communication and intellectual experience. Via esthetic expressions, the artist studies the place of an individual in the contemporary society, the role of a person that loses its uniqueness in the crowd, becomes a part of statistics, of economic relations, fades out in the throng of the contemporary civilization and its fetishes.

The artist displays fragments of reality in a generalized way, in a synthetically outlined form, staging absurd, trivial everyday stories deprived of striking heroism and pathos – representing the time, people, the spirit. His works of art attract with their expressive gestures, bursts of uncontrollable emotions, apt combinations of painting and collage, of the concrete and the abstract, the vagueness of ideologies and the beauty of the splash of paint.
