The composition consists of works created using three key styles of ultra-contemporary media art: fractal modelling, procedural (generative) graphics, and neurography – created with the help of artificial intelligence.
Serhiy Nizhynskyi’s NIHILOID work is a triptych in the nonart style, a style of abstract art aimed at the apophatic unveiling of reality through the denial of the ontological essence of depicted objects.
I PROTOPATTERN (fractal modelling)
The fractal, as an art object, symbolizes the ontological abyss, where a thing (system), as we approach it (and try to comprehend it), transforms and annihilates itself while remaining elusive. In this way, knowledge is an endless, obsessive, recursive, self-directed, cyclical process, incapable of bringing ultimate satisfaction.
II PSEUDOSOMA (generative graphics)
The cube is a symbol of space, volume, with its faces being the axes of coordinates XYZ. Within this framework, any objects exist, and any processes take place. The process in the work is represented by the chaotic generation and evolution of particles resembling cosmic objects. At a certain point, the cube shifts into a frontal projection, forming a square, where the accumulation of particles resembles craquelure – a meta-reference to the suprematist square.
III NEUROSCULPTURE (neurography)
We never deal with things as such, only with our perception of things. Perception of the world always occurs on a certain level of assumption. Things are like Rorschach inkblots – their interpretation reveals not the things themselves, but our own form and level of assumption.
