There is a small room in the Noch space, where Oleksandra Kadzevych shows video works by artists and short films. The window in this room is closed from the sun by a huge sheet of gray paper. A few months after the show, the artist removed this letter. From the direct rays of the sun, he acquired a burnt, light hue, which filled the main canvas of paper, leaving unchanged only a few initial fragments at the edges.
In this work, the artist turns to light that can penetrate material things, to give the impression of instability, the weakness of its resistance. It represents a series of works made of paper — labyrinthine, assembly, woven from the gaps of the structure of objects. Many of them use auxiliary elements — transparent shells, which give them the features of ephemeral structures that play with light and color. Other sheets of paper, placed along the floor, form flat layers of paint, texture, substance.
The artist’s works and objects often contain an element of weakness, instability, something that disturbs their balance or even threatens their presence. She does not consider them as visual or metaphorical, she is interested, first of all, in material, physical experience.
“I try to make the sensory features of these objects evoke a response from the audience. Transferred it from the mode of everyday life to a special mode of attention to the observed; changed the focus from objects to many rhythms, temporal distortions; included in the flow of the infinite absence of time, filled exclusively with the process of perception of space “, — Oleksandra Kadzevych.
