“Coming from a textile arts background, I discovered collage in 2021. I am self-taught and create both analog and digital work using my own photography and vintage print media of the 1950’s-70’s. My work tends to be compositionally simple and semi-abstract. My collage process centers on exploring the emotional, spiritual and sensory-perceptual aspects of color experience. Thematically my work encompasses many images of war and dislocation. My goal is to communicate a gesture of sanctuary and open possibility through qualities of color.
The series’ intention is to offer care and empathy to those living in a war zone, but also to the rest of us who are witnessing an unjust and brutal war, or experiencing other adverse events – inner or outer. Some of the images are from a collage book I created stemming from personal trauma I directly experienced as a young child in wartime.”
