- The dream of a restless citizen
Shtepura Olena
The Dream of a Restless Citizen belongs to a series of paintings reflecting on society. It is a smooth transition from another series of “nuclear landscapes” only through the concept of the existence of new generations in it. It is a certain view of a literally blue society and not literally a drunken society. Its duality and ambiguity. When you can be an ideologue, criticise the system, values, and someone’s ideals, shout about your position, and always be concerned and critical of everything around you.
And then you give in or break down when you accept and just close your eyes. When you sleep in reality. You accept the past and the future and you don’t notice anything anymore, you just exist. This is introspection and a critical look at social and ideological issues. This duality and ambiguity in the perception of society reflects the complexity of individual interaction with the world around us, or even its complete absorption.
Olena Shtepura was born in 1994 in Nizhyn, Chernihiv region. Lives and works in Vienna
