Table of Negotiations?
Table of Negotiations? 300×180 cm, ceramic, glaze, metal frame, 2022
About the artwork

Table of Negotiations? was created by Maria Kulikovska in 2022, during her evacuation with a newborn child from Uzhhorod to Linz, Austria. At that time she was confronted with postpartum depression, maternal anxiety, and the renewed trauma of war — a repetition of 2014, now compounded by responsibility for both her family under occupation and her own child.

In residency, working with ceramics became both a survival strategy and a way to articulate the loss of “home.” By casting fragile parts of her body into ceramic “furniture,” the artist materialized vulnerability and displacement, turning them into a psychological dialogue rather than silencing them.

For Kulikovska, Table of Negotiations? is not only a personal confession but also a political statement: a refusal to accept the loss of home and an insistence on the right to speak openly about fragility, trauma, and exile. The work continues her search for a new home — one built on truth, without forgetting the past.
