Hlivinska Anastasiia
“The artwork explores the relativity of individual freedom from the geopolitical point of view. Decisions made at the global level have an impact on everyone. Therefore, one category of people exercises their freedom to take away the freedom of others.
In the work, I used an image of a nuclear explosion as the most vivid manifestation of the abuse of power. The voting process, symbolizing the contribution of each individual, emphasizes the absurdity of the situation. The work includes a copy of the text of a radio speech broadcast on French radio in the early 1946 to announce the establishment of UNESCO. While one category of people tries to uphold freedom in its best forms, another category undermines all efforts because it has complete freedom of action.
In my works, I explore the diversity and, in certain cases, incompatibility of individual characteristics of the world and human beings and I try to make sense of the conflicts their interaction causes. Common themes in my art include chaos and order, the struggle between the spiritual and physical within a human, our need to simultaneously be individuals and to belong, the attempt to be spontaneous while controlling the world, and the desire to destroy and create.”
