About the artwork

“Ukrainian cultural code” is a series of digital collages, which became a combination of a 100-year-old rushnyk (decorative and ritual cloth, represents woven or embroidered designs, symbols and cryptograms of the ancient world) and photo-self-portraits in everyday life, which the artist encountered while moving around Ukraine in the first months of the full-scale invasion.
The creation of the autobiographical project began on the 10th day of the russian invasion of Ukraine. The author was forced to leave her home for the second time, but now in Kyiv, and move around Ukraine, as was the case in 2014 during the occupation of Luhansk.

The artist had one backpack with her, half of which was occupied by the camera. In the Cherkasy region, she came across a family heirloom – a rushnyk – that protected the family for about 100 years. The author did not know how to live on, but she wanted to capture and unite in memory the everyday life and values that became a shelter, and herself. The only thing that stays with you until the end is your body. The only thing that gives meaning to the body and will remain after you is culture.

The artist creates subjective, moral and aesthetic art aimed at the development of the social and psychological aspect of society. The result of artistic activity is multimedia projects, which are post-performance in form. The artist captures the consequences of actions personality and physicality the consequences of actions of free personal and physical expression of the heroes of the works.

The post-performance is aimed at researching and forming a body perception culture, and is built from the context of everyday life and the subjectivity of the characters’ personalities. According to the artist, life is art, and the body is a path. Therefore, she directs her art to create a culture of body perception that teaches to see the history of the individual.
