Vlad Tretiak
This work was created in collaboration with Anastasiia Prokofieva and supported by the Mondriaan Fonds.
The project centers on the theme of adaptation and transformation of the human being during Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The video is structured in four segments, each documenting the movement of a composite character across Ukrainian lands — from East to West, North to South, and back.
Through this movement, the work tells the story of irreversible changes, both within the individual and in the surrounding reality.
The central figure unfolding throughout the film is Anastasiia Prokofieva’s sculpture, representing the symbol of the “new human” — one who undergoes the trials of war yet endures and transforms through them.
Vlad Tretiak is a multidisciplinary artist from Nova Vodolaha, Ukraine, working in media art and audiovisual practices, combined with graphic art, painting, and object-based work. His practice explores the boundary between fact and fiction, examining the transformation of “the matter of fate” in the realities of wartime.
