Anatolii Tverdy
The project invites viewers into an imagined, transformed world where familiar botanical forms assume absurd and subtly unsettling proportions. What appears before us is no longer simply a watermelon, but an unknown, aggressive organic entity actively colonizing the space of contemporary culture.
In our present reality, nature is no longer passive. Under the pressure of anthropogenic chaos, information overload, and artificial distortions, these imagined plants have evolved. Scientific experiments in genetics and selective breeding—intended to master and improve nature—can sometimes provoke unforeseen mutations. In place of quiet flowering emerges an explosive visual proliferation: the genesis of a new biomorphic flora.
Within the installation, the mirror functions as a portal to another dimension—an экран of our collective unconscious. It distorts the surrounding environment, multiplies the chaos of green stems, and creates the illusion of a world that is both boundless and hermetically enclosed. As viewers enter the installation’s optical trap, they immediately cease to be passive observers and become participants in this strange dreamscape.
Anatolii Tverdy is a Kyiv-based sculptor and experimental artist. He studied at the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture (NAFAA) and has taught in its Drawing Department since 1991. He is a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.
Tverdy’s sculpture is closely bound to the traditions of folk and ancient art. In primitivism the artist finds a complete expressive language, one that lets him state ideas with clarity: spare forms, at times grotesque, convey his particular vision of the world. He experiments constantly with materials — from bronze, wood, and stone to plastics and polymers — working with flattened, transparent, and wooden sculpture as well as complex spatial compositions, moving freely between abstraction and realism.
Beyond sculpture, he works in graphics, installation, and collage. His works have been shown in Kyiv, Lviv, Moscow, Magdeburg, and Paris.
