Minin Roman
There is a symbol of power in the centre of the pyramid. People call this design the “knopka” (the literal translation is “button”; means a drawing pin). If used improperly, it causes pain and trouble. A drawing pin is created for anchoring, for approval, for learning. The artist chose Majdan Svobody for the installation because its name implies the freedom of creative expression.
A drawing pin is a perfect form for power representation. It is a folk symbol in the broad sense of the word: films were made about this subject, stories and songs were invented. The object rotates on a concrete pedestal. It is a perpetual circular solar motion like “a rolling apple on a plate”*.
* a reference to the Russian folk song “Yablochko”

Mining is the main characteristic of the Donetsk region, where Roman Minin was born. For the people of the region, it is not only an industry, but also a way of life. Minin took this as the main theme of his painting and stained glass, as a metaphor for a closed social system that forbids access. In the Donetsk Region Escape Plan, Minin created his own rescue scheme for the imprisonment.
