About the artwork

On February 24, the anniversary of the full-scale invasion, I created this work in my studio at the Institute of Automation for a small group of invited friends. I occasionally use my studio space to create temporary installations. Such works are an important part of my experimental artistic process, aimed at fostering direct engagement with viewers and encouraging dialogue around issues that concern me.

This work was created using old books that had been discarded as waste. Their destruction, in a metaphorical sense, is intended to reveal the materiality of a constructed myth. To some extent, the piece was my response to acquaintances in Russia who, after an entire year of war, had made no public reaction to it, as well as to those who justify it using the arguments of official propaganda. I wanted to emphasize that the concepts and narratives manipulated by a dictatorship are fictional, unlike the suffering they cause, which is very real.
