Amid the Storm
Amid the Storm 100 × 81 × 28 cm (sculpture), 16 reliefs, 27 × 19.5 × 4 cm each, concrete, 2022–2023
About the artwork

This is the author’s first artistic reflection on the events caused by russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Above all, the work serves as a documentation of the artist’s personal perception of the grim reality of wartime, recorded throughout 2022–2023 through the creation of several concrete objects in the artist’s studio in Kyiv: a volumetric sculpture embodying a state of anxiety, and a series of concrete reliefs, some of which are presented within the framework of the project Concentration of the Will.

“Amid the Storm” is an attempt to capture the shifting condition of present-day reality, as well as a subconscious effort to find, amid fear and uncertainty, a desired space of calm and contemplation necessary for comprehending this new reality.

Petro Gronsky works in easel and landscape sculpture.

Education

He studied at the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture, where he completed his Master’s degree in Sculpture in 2012.

Artistic Practice

In Petro Gronsky’s artistic explorations, one can trace the influence of Oleksandr Archypenko, whose memorial project is included in the artist’s portfolio. Through the transformation of classical form, the sculptor often turns to metaphysical reflection, foregrounding authenticity rather than the idealization of the depicted subject. Gronsky’s works leave a profound impression through their combination of realism and expressiveness.

He is a member of the youth association of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.
