У якийсь день найспеціальнішої в історії людства військової операції демілітаризація непомітно перейшла в русло
деіндустріалізації та деелектрифікації всіма підручними засобами: іранськими мопедами, прасками, молотками та
ватниками. Напевно, зараз і взимку в Росії хочуть показувати по телевізору налякану і замерзлу Україну, тому й роблять
капіталовкладення в новини, які мають радувати глядача. Як і все, що робиться в рамках цього дивного заходу, ця
вистава призначена для внутрішнього російського споживача. Вона потрібна для того, щоб видавити ще хоч трохи
гнівогною з виснаженого і впавшого в апатію ватного болота ура-патріотів, на якому стоїть фундамент російської влади. «У війні не буває переможців – лише переможені». Фраза належить Невілу Чемберлену, прем’єр-міністру Великобританії в 1937-1940 роках. Він проводив політику умиротворення агресора, робив поступки Гітлеру та Муссоліні в надії виторгувати мир. Що з цього вийшло ви напевно знаєте. Примітно, що західні політики через майже 80 років намагались зробити те саме. На війні точно є переможці і ті, що зазнали поразки. Причому з обох сторін, що воюють.
Переможці змогли відрізнити істину від брехні та йти за нею всупереч усьому. Переможці змогли подолати власний
страх. Переможці зрозуміли, що тільки об’єднавшись у них є шанс вижити, відсунули конфлікти (і тим більше мовні) та
особисті амбіції на другий план, а ті, що програли, так і залишилися тими, хто піклується тільки про себе. Переможці
здобули віру. У себе, у вищі сили, у справедливість та чистий намір. Переможці змогли прийняти нові обставини та гіркоту втрати. Переможці навчилися жити у повній невизначеності та непередбачуваності, ефективно справляючись зі стресом та емоційними навантаженнями. Переможці зрозуміли, що у цьому світі насправді цінно і варте того, щоб за нього боротися, а що вторинне. Переможець, незважаючи на всі страхіття війни, зміг залишитися людиною. А найтрагічніша поразка це втратити людське обличчя. І зробити це набагато простіше, ніж здається. Не лише на полі бою, а й перед екраном монітора. Коли ми відвертаємося від подій і людей, які потребують нашої допомоги, чи коли перестаємо бачити людину в особі ворога. Заплутаний, злісний, жорстокий і дурний, але все одно людина. Багато в чому від нас залежить те, яким буде мир після війни. Чи станемо ми боротися один з одним, коли зовнішніх ворогів не стане? Переможені захочуть помститися чи бути такими, як ми?
Mykhailo Rai was born in 1984 in Kherson, in a family of former ship’s cooks.
He graduated from the Maritime College and served at sea as a Deck Officer. In search of satisfaction, he started to engage in photography.
At first, it was nothing more than a hobby until he saw realistic digital photo collages. The ability to synthesize his own images instead of reflecting through the surrounding reality quickly captured his full attention. He finally got the right tools to recreate his inner world and transform it; thus, his interest in traditional photographic practice was finally lost. He began to discover hidden facets of his own consciousness, and this pushed him to find answers in psychology and religions.
Shortly before the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, he gave up his maritime career, which he had been building for over 20 years, and intended to live a life creating art that could awaken people. On February 24, 2022, life began to challenge him. He decided to stay in Kherson, his native city, which was occupied by Russian forces, and fight for freedom with the power of his art. This decision unexpectedly brought him to the answers he was looking for: to prove that Paradise (Ray in Ukrainian) is not a place but a state of consciousness. During the occupation of Kherson, he gave interviews to BBC and a number of Ukrainian, US, and Taiwanese journalists about his art and the situation in the city, and he took part in numerous exhibitions in Ukraine, Europe, the USA, and Asia. His artworks are held in private collections in the USA, Netherlands, and Ukraine.
