About the artwork

My skin is thin —
that’s who I am,
sometimes it seems almost transparent,
and my petal-like insides are exposed.
Somewhere beneath it, the heart is like a grain of earth,
it shines outward,
despite everything that hurts me
it never fades.

In the installation consisting of 9 fragments, “My Skin is Thin,” the artist uses natural material from a kombucha mushroom that mimics human skin, and the drypoint technique, through which she scrapes graphics. The artist uses drawing as diary entries of her state over the course of a month, creating graphics in moments of greatest vulnerability. The combination of these layers becomes a means of exploring her own sensitivity—“thin-skinnedness”—both emotional and physical.
